Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, today directed the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Michael Gusa, to take legal action against those who published a forged letter alleging that it emanated from the Secretary to the State Government demanding N200 million from the Finance Commissioner for the celebration of 2016 Democracy Day.
The Governor stated at the Benue Peoples House that no such approval had been given by the State Executive Council and no one expended such an amount on the celebration which was marked with Jumat prayers and an interdenominational church service.
He said both the letter which the publication claimed emanated from the SSG and the note said to bear his signature directing payment had been forged and directed that legal action be taken against those responsible to serve as a deterrent to others.
According to the Governor those who forged the document exhibited ignorance about how the system operated with regard to release of funds and were only bent on circulating lies and falsehood against his administration.
He said he was accountable to the people and was willing to give account for every expenditure and action pointing out that the two events cost N2 million.
